A 36 year old woman named Olusola Olukanni has been reported to have contracted Sexually transmitted diseases(STD) after she was allegedly raped by a group of bandits in Bokos, Jos Plateau State.
The incident happened on 24, December 2023 at about 10.30 Pm when a group of heavily armed people attacked her residence on,14,Awolowo Avenues,Bokos Local Government area , Plateau State and during the attack the house being occupied by her family was burnt down but her husband Oluwasanmi Pius Olukanni,her daughter ,Anjolaoluwa and son , Oluwadarasimi escaped but Olusola was not that lucky as she was kidnapped and taken to the bandits camp where she was allegedly to have been sexually assaulted.
She and other captives were later rescued after five days in bandits Camp by Operation Safe Haven and taken to hospital where it was discovered that Olusola had Contacted STD as a result of the assault in the bandit’s camp.
Pt learned that Given the heinous nature of the crime and the subsequent medical findings, it is evident that Mrs Olukanni is not only a victim of a brutal attack but is also facing an ongoing threats to her safety, dignity, and mental well-being, as it was later known that all members of her local group that has been campaigning against Female General Mutilation (FGM)and child marriage suffered the same faith and trauma.
And when the threat was becoming unbearable the case was reported to the Police on 14, January 2024 for record purpose because the environment is a place where perpetrators are not held accountable and where victims are often stigmatized. Mrs Olukanni must be provided with the opportunity to seek refuge in a safe environment where she can begin the process of healing and rebuilding her life free from the fear of further victimization.
