
Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly,
Obasa was returned, following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda who read her resignation letter out at the plenary Monday afternoon.
Meranda assumed office on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
Despite her brief tenure, lawmakers lauded her ability to lead effectively and foster a positive atmosphere in the Assembly.
Meranda resigned alongside all principal officers appointed with her.
Meranda resigned after a meeting with high-ranking All Progressives Congress members to address the leadership crisis.
The crisis began on 13,January 2025, when Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker by two-thirds of the 40-member house due to alleged misconduct.
Meranda, Obasa’s deputy, became the first female Speaker in the state.
However, Obasa rejected his removal, citing improper procedure and militarisation of the assembly complex.
On 27,February2025 Obasa arrived at the Assembly Complex, escorted by armed, uniformed security operatives.
He insisted he remained the Speaker, rejecting his removal.
His colleagues, however, reaffirmed their loyalty to Meranda.
