A renowned Sports Promoter and the President of AYSON Promotions, High Chief Mufutau Abolade, has urged Governments at various levels to create the much needed enabling environment and support organisations and individuals with genuine interest geared towards the development of the nation’s youth through the instrumentality of sports.
Abolade, who made these remarks during a chat with newsmen at the kick – off / opening ceremony of the 2025 edition of the 9ja Cafe Rhum / Late Pa Ayo Rosiji football tournament, held at the Nigeria Distilleries Limited (NDL) sports ground, Sango – Ota, Ogun State on Thursday, noted that the football championship was organised for the discovery of young footballers for further development to realise their potentials.
He said that sports had always been a unifying factor for Nigerians as it had greatly enhanced people’s unity, togetherness and cohesion, hence the desire of his organisation to treat it as it truly deserves.
High Chief Abolade stated that the football tournament was to develop sports at the grassroot, stressing that this would go a long way in discovering new football talents and groom them for national and international meets.
The AYSON boss reiterated that the championship was for teams from every part of Ogun and Lagos States and that the winners of the tournament, the first runners – up and the second runners – up would go home with trophies, medals and handsome cash rewards.
Abolade further explained that the 16 participating teams were divided into four groups, where the top two teams in each of the groups would move to the quarter final stage of the competition.
Highlights of the kick – off / opening ceremony included match pass by the participating teams, entertainment by ball jogglers, light refreshment, music rendition, presentation of 9ja Cafe Rhum as gifts to guests and the opening match kick – off by Nigeria’s immediate past Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sharafa Tunji – Ishola
