The Managing Director of Alpha -Beta consulting Limited ,Akinsanya Doherty was recently accused of making questionable claims about company finances, including stating that he paid N200 million yearly rent at Etiebet House and spent N450 million to equip offices in 2022.
Doherty was reportedly threatened to “deal with” Comrade Segun Oluwasanmi during a December 2025 meeting, alleging that he had connection to anonymous emails that exposed internal grievances within the company.
Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP is a firm long associated with President Bola Tinubu. The company has for years been at the center of controversy over its role in Lagos State’s tax collection system, largely due to its historical ties to Tinubu, who governed the state from 1999 to 2007 before becoming President.
This was disclosed to SaharaReporters by Alpha-Beta employees, who said the meeting took place in December 2025 with two security agents present, following Mr. Doherty’s response to anonymous emails dated May 19, 25, and 30, 2025, sent by individuals identifying themselves as “Concerned Staff.”
The staff said the emails raised issues such as “stagnation, lack of promotion, favouritism, selective promotion copying Seyi Tinubu (President Tinubu’s son), Wale Edun (Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy), all staff and some politicians.”
According to one of the workers, Mr. Doherty “dared us to record the meeting in which he threatened to deal with Comrade Segun Oluwasanmi and told some lies against him,” adding that “he only tried to rope Comrade Segun Oluwasanmi to intimidate him into silence.”
The workers insisted that the mails were sent after Oluwasanmi had already left the company and that “Mr. Doherty knew the man knew nothing about the mails but he was looking for a way to deal with him like he threatened in the meeting.”
The staff members further disclosed that Alpha-Beta management had, in earlier internal correspondence dated May 26 and June 20, 2025, accused “disgruntled staff members” of being behind the anonymous mails after what it described as forensic investigations.
“He was bragging about his status and the educational achievement of his children while making justifications for his actions,” one of the workers said, including his explanation for “paying some retired staff who were members of his cabal for a year after retirement and the one that resigned in 2022 but was still collecting salary in the name of consulting.”
According to the workers, during the meeting, “Mr. Doherty asked us to ask questions and speak our minds,” while claiming he was ready to address the issues raised in the May 2025 emails.
Some staff members reportedly complained of being “stagnated for years,” while others accused the management of “selectively favoured” promotions and higher pay. They said they requested restructuring and appropriate promotions.
Mr. Doherty allegedly presented the firm’s employees with a choice between using an external consultant or conducting an internal review for a proposed “salary review work,” but “he never did anything after then.”
The workers stated that Philips Consulting was eventually engaged around the third quarter of 2025 to review pay and compensation, but the report “was never implemented despite multiple changes of date for the report release and implementation from September 30, 2025 to the end of November 2025 and later to mid-December 2025.”
They noted that the increment was set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
A staff member also reportedly complained during the meeting about “the pettiness of Mr. Akinsanya Doherty,” alleging that the MD was “keeping malice with him and would not respond to his greetings based on the misinformation that Mr. Doherty gathered about the staff,” without verifying the claims. The same worker reportedly complained of stagnation for years.
Mr. Doherty was also accused of making questionable claims about company finances, including stating that he paid N200 million yearly rent at Etiebet House and spent N450 million to equip offices in 2022.
Staff members countered that Alpha-Beta relocated from Waterhouse, Ijora, where rent was “less than N40 million per annum as at 2022 when relocating.”
The workers further alleged that Mr. Doherty falsely claimed he was not a signatory to Alpha-Beta’s accounts, even though “salary cannot be paid without his signature and input.”
Some staff members said they refused to speak during the meeting “because of the presence of security agents.”
More troubling, the workers alleged that Mr. Doherty “confessed that he had made up his mind to stop gratuity due to the mails of May 19, 25 and 30, 2025 due to vendetta and his usual vengeance attitude”.
According to the workers, gratuity was eventually discontinued through a notice dated July 28, 2025, with effect from August 1, 2025.
The staff members said multiple pieces of evidence exist, including audio recordings of the meeting where Mr. Doherty issued the threat, recordings of staff complaining about stagnation, favouritism and malice, and voices in which he admitted deciding to stop gratuity because of the anonymous mails.
They also cited internal emails from Human Capital Management indicating salary review timelines, later altered implementation dates, and a mail introducing Philips Consulting on December 12, 2025.
The revelations provide further context to SaharaReporters’ earlier reports that operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the Lagos State Police Command allegedly worked with Alpha-Beta officials to intimidate, blackmail and criminalise Oluwasanmi, a former employee and whistleblower, who the company of corruption and tax evasion.
SaharaReporters had reported that Oluwasanmi was arrested, detained and later charged over allegations linked to Facebook posts sharing SaharaReporters’ investigations, even though Alpha-Beta’s petition acknowledged that the anonymous May 2025 emails were sent by “Concerned Staff” and that forensic investigations had identified a staff member allegedly responsible.
Oluwasanmi left Alpha-Beta in January 2025, months before the anonymous emails were sent.
