Cynthia Okereke
Star Actress Cynthia Okereke has been reported dead.
According to Popular Actor and filmmaker, Joseph Okechukwu, Okereke died on Tuesday evening.
Sharing the actress’ picture on his Instagram page, Okechukwu said he was about to pay for Cynthia’s flight ticket to come to America before her death.
He wrote: “REST IN PEACE, Nwanyi oma (good woman). I’m shattered beyond words.
“The fact that I was about to pay for your flight ticket to come and finish what we started only to hear you went to be with Lord just last night is one of the toughest things I’ve had to deal with in recent times.
“I pray I’m able to recover from the shock. Life is really just a mist. One minute you have it, the next you don’t.
“For the more than 20 years that I’ve known you, you’ve been such an amazing, decent and lovely soul to be around. Words fail me. May your gentle soul rest on till we meet again in glory. #CynthiaOkereke.”
The Nollywood actress, has sadly passed away, exactly one year after enduring a traumatic kidnapping experience.
Cynthia Okereke was born on April 20, 1960, she hailed from Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria.
Cynthia ventured into acting professionally in 1998 when she joined the Nigerian movie industry, popularly known as Nollywood. Her breakthrough came with her first notable role in the movie “King Jaja of Opobo,” which garnered the attention of several movie directors and producers in Nigeria.
Throughout her career the late Cynthia Okereke has had the opportunity to work with numerous Nollywood stars, including Eve Esin, Ngozi Ezeonu, Funke Akindele, Ebere Okaro, Chiwetalu Agu, Keneth Okonkwo, Chioma Chukwuka, John Okafor, Tana Adelana, and many more.
She gained further recognition for her performance in the movie “Osofia in London,” where she starred alongside Nkem Owoh. The film was shot in London as well as various locations in Nigeria. Since then, Cynthia has appeared in over 50 Nollywood movies, including “Hidden Tears,” “Sound of Love,” “Coronation,” “Second Burial,” “Lion Finger,” “Second Chance,” and many others.
For her exceptional contributions to the film industry, Cynthia was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress category at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
