
Yesterday, 8, October 2024,Afrobeats superstar Paul Play hosted an intimate event tagged “An Evening with Paul Play” at Pizza Express in Holborn, London. The night was a celebration of music and artistry, drawing in fans eager to experience his captivating performances.
Paul Play took to the stage at 8.10pm setting the tone for the evening with two engaging sets. During the first set, he delighted the audience with a mix of beloved classics and fresh tracks, including “Happy Day,” the vibrant “Omolisha Nwa” from his upcoming album, the timeless “Forever,” which he penned in 2002, as well as “I Want It That Way” and “You and Me.” After this exhilarating performance, he took a 15-minute break at 8.40pm allowing the audience a moment to have a drink and a bite.
Upon his return, Paul Play launched into the second set with “Ro ke ke,” a lively highlife tune that brought renewed energy to the venue. He then welcomed the lead singer of Styplus to the stage for a special rendition of their hit song “Olufunmi,” creating a memorable collaboration that resonated with the crowd. Continuing with his performance, Paul Play treated the audience to three more songs: “Phenomenon,” “Angel of My Life,” which he dedicated to his wife in attendance, and “All Night Long.” He followed up with his chart-topping hit “Mó So Rírè,” before concluding the evening with hit and my personal favourite, “Mo Wa Dupe.” The performance was truly electrifying, supported by a dynamic and versatile six-member band that enhanced the overall experience. The event rounded up at 9.55pm leaving the audience buzzing with excitement.
