Daddy showkey had mistakenly sto*en his mother’s cash to buy Barrister’s album in some occasions, he was scolded at each time. He never imagined that he would ever meet Ayinde Barrister, although both came from ghetto, Showkey from Ajegunle and Barrister from Mushin. Mushin is the origin of Fuji and Barrister was the first human being on earth to sing Fuji and call it Fuji, no other creature did that before him!!!!
Let’s go back to the main story. One day precisely in 1994, Daddy showkey heard that Barrister wanted to ‘play’ in Apapa, it coincided with the time showkey wanted to release his first album, he has recored it in the master tape looking for a Producer, his mind told him “let Barrister pray for you, so that you too can be like him”. So he went to Apapa with his Master Tape. On getting to the place where Barrister supposed to be, he asked someone around, fortunately, the person pointed the hotel where Barrister was to him and showkey found a way to know the particular room. Omo ita fun ra e!
On getting to the door, he knocked and Barrister opened the door, before he could introduced himself, Barry said “are you the Akuko that sings on the TV with someone? You’re surprised how I knew?”….”Yes sir”, showkey replied! “Come in my dear son”, Barrister said.
As Showkey entered, he met about 3 Imams praying with Barrister on a mat, it was an intense prayer Barrister used to do before his shows…Showkey quickly told Barrister “Sir I came to see you. I want God to bless me the way He blessed you. I want to do a record too and it is my first record, please pray for me sir….”. “Where is the record “, Barrister asked. Showkey quickly gave him the Master Tape. Barrister gave the Master Tape to the Imams and they started praying on it. Barrister opened his briefcase 💼and brought out N25k(in 1994) as offering to the Alfas. After the prayer that lasted about two hours, Barrister was ready to go out and do his show, the Alfas told Daddy Showkey “this record will announce you to the world 🌎. You will make it. Please don’t forget to be good to those coming behind you too, return the favor Barrister gave you to those coming behind you…..”
Before the record would be released, Daddy Showkey’s wife gave birth but he couldn’t pay for the hospital bills, so he bought a nylon bag and started dancing around Ajegunle to raise money, all he could raise was not enough to pay for hospital card. So he ran to some musicians to assist, no one assisted. Suddenly he said “let me go to Barrister”. He went to Isolo to see Barrister but Barrister was in Ibadan for a show. He begged the people at home to help him call his hotel in Ibadan, they called and Barrister picked, on knowing Showkey was in his house, he said “give my son the phone please”. Showkey said “Daddy mo ti bimo o(Daddy I have given birth o)”. Before he could proceed, Barrister began to sing “Mo ri wa Mo ri waya n’isolo o, mo ri waya n’isolo won ni baba olomo npe mi o……..etc”, he continued, “Give the phone to so so….” after that Barrister instructed the people at home to go to his bedroom, open his bag and give Daddy Showkey N100k……According to Showkey, he almost collapsed because he has never imagined that he would touch such an amount in his lifetime….”. That was how Barrister removed his shame.
By the time the first album of Daddy showkey was released, it was indeed a masterpiece…..”Talo ni Moto El Hay……”. God answered Barrister’s prayers on him so much that even Barrister’s biological son adopted a nickname Barry Showkey.
