
A memo signed on June 14, 2024 in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section 19 (Cap 28) Law of Oyo State 2000 as amended, through which Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State gave approval for Oba Olakuleyin to mount the throne as the next Olubadan is is currently causing ripples in Ibadan,Oyo State capital .
Pt learned that Ibadan indigenes, especially stakeholders, are of the opinion that Governor Makinde is not serious about the installation because he just signed the memo without giving a date for the installation ceremony.
Apart from that the Oyo State council of Chiefs are said to be in the dark as regarding the installation because they have not been consulted by the governor.
Pt learned that a major crisis was averted by some stakeholders last week as Ibadan indigenes Plans to stage a protest to the governor’s office after which they will force the Oluwo to crown Olakulehin as the new Olubadan.
A source close to the stakeholders, especially the youths among them, revealed that they may stage another protest in the next one week if the governor fails to fix a date for the installation.
Meanwhile, members of the Olakulehin family are currently selling Aso-Ebi ahead of the coronation because according to them they don’t want to be caught unaware by the governor’s final approval.
All attempt by Pt to get Governor Seyi Makinde’s comment on the issue prove abortive but after signing of the memo Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Honourable Olusegun Olayiwola, said the approval is a culmination of a series of processes stipulated by the extant laws of the state regarding ascension to royal throne
He added that the governor congratulated the new Olubadan, praying that his tenure will birth greater developments in Ibadanland and Oyo State as a whole.
