
In preparation for local government autonomy, procurement officers in Lagos State have embarked on self-training to develop procurement plans that align with local government goals and priorities.
This initiative according to Mrs Balogun-Are Niniola, President Local Government Procurement Officers forum is in response to the challenges they (Procurement officers) faced with the state template, which hindered their daily activities.
And that the association incorporated a self-training program into the 2025 summit, themed “Strategic Procurement Planning: Aligning with Local Government Objectives.” held at the New Shomolu Local Government Secretariat,Shomolu Lagos in order to correct these anomalies.
The summit aimed to explore how to develop procurement plans that support local government goals and priorities,was attended by all Procurement officers from all the Local Government in Lagos State.
Key speakers, including Mrs. Balogun-Are Niniola, President of the Association, and Hon. Kamal Ayinde Baiyewu, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, who emphasized the importance of respecting superior officers and adopting a human face in their work.
The summit featured a comprehensive lecture on procurement planning by Mr. Ambali Taofeek, Director of Procurement at the Local Government Service Commission, followed by an interactive session that provided valuable insights to participants.
This self-training initiative demonstrates the procurement officers’ commitment to enhancing their capacity and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the procurement world, ensuring they prevent violations of procurement laws and work in conformity with the procurement manual.
