
Following the publication of the alleged detention of Ogun state Punch Newspaper Correspondent by Olu of Itori, Oba Abdul Fatai Akamo, the monarch has demanded a retraction and apology from the media organisation.
In a letter written by a law firm,P.a.g.e. ,representing Oba Akamo ,the monarch is seeking a retraction and apology to be published in the Punch Newspaper and another National Daily as demanded by the law firm.
The letter , addressed to the Managing Director/ Acting Editor, Mr. Adeleye Joseph, stated ” Our client has drawn our attention to the publication of page 16 of your Newspaper of 28 ,February,2025 wherein you falsely wrote of our client thus ” The Olu of Itori, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abdul Fatai Akamo on Tuesday, ordered the Police to arrest and detain the State Correspondent of the Punch Newspaper,Bankole Taiwo, for inquiring into the trending video where one Sanni Babatunde Akeem, a physical challenged person, was labelling a land- grabbing allegation against the Royal father and another Monarch, Oba Kayode Sodimu.
” The said libellous report was also circulated in your online platform and other social media platforms.
” Our client reputation has been greatly injured and affected, by the above wrong and false reportage, of the incident, which occurred inside our client Palace and which happened during one of the activities marking his 21 year Coronation activities
” Our client, a successful businessman, before ascending the throne of his forefathers, has since the malicious publication, been subjected to ridicule and embarrassment “.
The letter signed by A.M. kotoye, Senior Advocate of Nigeria reads further “Our Demands
A retraction of the said publication and a written apology to be addressed to our client personally
Bothe the retraction and the written apology should be published in your Newspaper and one other National Newspaper, within the next seven (7) days commencing from the date of the receipt of the letter and the Sum of #500,000,000( Five hundred Million Naira) as compensation for the injury, occasioned to our client and which is a direct consequence of your wrongful conduct”.
