The Aare Atunluse of Awori Kingdom and the Chairman, Mapcotec Nigeria Limited, Aare (Surveyor) Dr. Segun Osifeso has commended the Federal Government for it’s decision to revoke the 5% excise duty earlier imposed on telecommunication services and the decision that it has no immediate plans to enforce the 5% fuel surcharge included in the recently signed Tax Administration Act 2002.
Osifeso, who made these remarks during a chat at Ota, Ogun State on Friday, noted that the Federal Government’s gesture would significantly reduce cost pressures on over 171 million active telecom subscribers across the country, while the 5% fuel surcharge suspension would avoid increased burdens on the people.
He stressed that the President Bola Tinubu led administration was aware of the economic pressures of the time and would not take decisions that would make things even more burdensome.
The Surveyor of high repute said that if the telecommunication tax had not been revoked by the Federal Government, it would have further increased the cost of communication, thereby posing an additional burden on telecom users.
Aare Osifeso further added that the telecom tax reversal would also serve as a boost for the digital economy as it is expected to enhance access to affordable communication, support businesses and encourage broader participation in Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
” The tax reversal reflects the government’s responsiveness to public concerns and its broader agenda of easing the cost of living for Nigerians”.
The Federal Government efforts is worth the whole. We shall reap the benefits of the policies in due course. We only need to be patient. A house destroyed over years can not be rebuilt in a day.
