As two important personalities in the academic and religious sector namely Professor Wole Soyinka and Pastor Folu Adeboye clock 89 and 75 respectively today 13 July 2023, eminent personalities across the world took to the social media to celebrate them. In a congratulatory message issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, described Prof. Soyinka “a quintessential scholar and literary icon who has used his position and experience to contribute positively to literature, academics and governance globally.
Others are writers, scholars and those in the academic circles whose lives Soyinka has touched.
They wished him all the best in all his endeavors.
Members of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, RCCG, took to social media through their different handles to celebrate the woman they described as “Mummy G.O.” and the backbone of the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Folu Adeboye
Pastor Foluke Adeboye is the wife of the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
Fondly called “Mummy G.O.” was born Foluke Adenike Adeyokunnu on Tuesday 13 July 1948 to the family of Jacob and Morounfola Adelusi Adeyokunnu.
Her father, Jacob was a Prince of the Royal Family of Owa Obokun Oji in Ijeshaland, Osun State.
She is the eldest of ten children.
Foluke attended Methodist Girls Primary and Secondary school Ilesa. before she proceeded to the United Missionary College (UMC) Ibadan where she obtained her Grade II Teacher’s Certificate in 1966 at age
She also has a Diploma Certificate in Science and Mathematics from the University of Lagos (Associate Diploma in Education); another Diploma in Religious Studies and a Certificate in Directorate of Schools Studies from the University of Saint John and Mark, Plymouth, United Kingdom.
She’s a proud mother of four children (three sons, one deceased and a daughter) and many grandchildren.
Foluke was a Methodist for many years before she was officially ordained a Pastor in 1996.
She started Christ the Redeemer’s Schools Movement because of her passion for planting Christian schools.
She is has authored some books.
Wole Soyinka
Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka was born into a Yoruba family in Abeokuta. In 1954, he attended Government College in Ibadan, and subsequently University College Ibadan and the University of Leeds in England. After studying in Nigeria and the UK, he worked with the Royal Court Theatre in London, where he bagged his doctorate degree in 1973 .
