There is serious anxiety In the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) over a recent meeting between the President Muhamadu Buhari’ and all APC Governors over the choice of the party’s Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 presidential election.
Pt learned that the bone of contention was Buhari’s speech in which he said he should be allowed to choose his successor and that the person must be a politician and must have clout .
Investigation revealed that the above statement is causing confusion as some members of the party are of the opinion that President Buhari may impose an unpopular candidate on them.
But Pt findings which are in line with the electoral act revealed that the president can not unilaterally impose a candidate and that if there is going to be a consensus candidate ,all the presidential aspirants must agree through a letter that must be written in their own handwriting informing the INEC about the decision.
And that since the statutory delegates can not vote at the primaries ,the president and the governors do not have any voting right but the thinking of some political analysts is that they (the governors) may influence their State delegates.
As tPresident Muhamadu Buhari returns from Spain on Friday Pt can reveal that serious consultàtion is currently going on in APC and there is palpable fear within the party about President Buhari’s next move.
