Former Super Eagles player ,writer and sports critic Chief Segun Odegbami has warned Nigerians not to expect magic from the interim Super Eagles technical adviser ,Austin Eguavoen .
Speaking yesterday on the popular television programme ,Sports Parliament running on NTA sports 24 , Odegbami with his co discussants namely Abraham Ibn Muhammed and Waheed Ekun said that four weeks is too short for a serious coach to prepare for a tournament like Cup of Nations.
Continuing,he said that Eguavoen is not new to the team because he served as the Technical director alongside the consortium of coaches like Austin Jay Jay Okocha ,Garba Lawal ,Yobo Joseph and others .”Though he was not fully in charge then but now that he is handling the team in the interim ,it is important for him and his colleagues to prove a point but he (Eguavoen) can’t perform more than his capacity because of the timing”.
The Egba born footballer said if he ( Eguavoen) can not win the cup of Nations he should be able to get to either the semi- final or final of the tournament.’ because his appointment may be politically motivated and a ploy for him to fail”
While wishing him and the team the best, the sports Parliament crew said ,apart from the issue of a technical adviser, there are other fundamental problems that must be addressed before the team can have a a head way .
