The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I, has declared that the presidential seat in Aso Rock is not vacant, expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu will return for a second term in 2027 based on his performance.
He spoke on Monday when the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and members of the council paid a courtesy visit to his Iga-Iduganran Palace in Lagos Island. The team was led to the palace by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said Lagos is the natural starting point for the council’s nationwide consultations with traditional and religious leaders, describing the delegation as experienced Nigerians including former Senate Presidents and governors.
Senator Yari said they were at the palace to seek the monarch’s royal blessing, describing President Tinubu as the Generalissimo of Nigerian politics who has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s development for the next 30 years.
Responding, Oba Akiolu endorsed Tinubu’s re-election, saying politicians should promote peace, not division. He recalled that Tinubu approved his appointment as Oba in 2003, commended Sanwo-Olu’s administration, and called for special federal status for Lagos.
