The Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Toba Ajiboye, has died after succumbing to gunshot injuries sustained in an attack by unidentified gunmen.
Ajiboye was reportedly shot on Sunday night in circumstances that remain unclear. Although initial reports indicated that he survived the attack, sources confirmed on Tuesday that he later died while receiving treatment.
His death has plunged the Lagos transport union into mourning, with members, colleagues and supporters expressing shock over the incident.
The motive for the attack has not been established, and security agencies are yet to release an official statement or announce any arrests.
The killing has renewed calls for a thorough investigation, as transport workers and residents urge authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the deadly attack.
