There have been mixed reactions over today’s declaration by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,Prof.Yemi Osibajo that he intends to contest for the President of the country under the All Progressive Congress (APC) come 2023.
Some Nigerians saluted the gallantry of Osibajo for taking a shot at the Presidency while others criticised him for running against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ,a man they described as his benefactor.
Tosin Adebambo, a fashion designer, thanked the VP for taking a bold step by making his intention known ‘Your Excellency you have my support’.
Mayowa Adetifa takes a clean swipe at the VP saying that he has bitten the finger that fed him.’He is a betrayer’.
Reacting on social media under the name Baby Shank wrote ‘there is no way Osibajo will win over Tinubu ,he is just wasting his time and money’.
Above also wrote, ‘my dear never say never , anything can happen’.
While Jogger is of the opinion that the APC Primaries Will be hot and keenly contested.
Reacting Temitope Ajayi writes that’ It is quite underwhelming for a sitting Vice President of Nigeria to be holed up inside a room for a recorded video declaration to be President. If morning shows the day, VP Osinbajo must have seen the writing on the wall now.
Professor Osinbajo invited 22 Governors of his party to a pre-presidential declaration briefing; only 10 honoured the invitation. Out of the 10, the VP does not have 1 he can lay any claim to for 100% support. He does not even have the assurance or guarantee that the Governor of his home state of Ogun is with him.
On second thought, I think the video/twitter declaration was a better way to save face. It would have been a disaster to have an open house declaration without any political figure of substance in attendance.
How VP Osinbajo, an erudite Professor of Law with specialty in Evidence could allow himself to be railroaded into this journey to nowhere beats my imagination.
In another development Frontline presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu this morning held a crucial meeting with APC Governors in Abuja. 17 Governors of the party attended the meeting called this morning, by the Tinubu camp to intimate the Governors of his presidential aspiration.
